Fabric Crafts

I have always found inspiration in bringing charm to the fundamentally utilitarian. These rock climbing chalk bags were some of the very first sewing projects that introduced me to fabric crafts.

River Bank Wallet

A little embroidered Porgy on the outside and a simple inner area with many pockets hiding a handful of fishy surprises!

Celestial Climbing Bag

Two bags inside of one: a divider in the middle flips to one side or the other revealing either a chalk compartment, or a "black-hole snack-hole," wherein climbing treats can be stored, chalk-free! The outside is quilted and inspired by the extraterrestrial, for a friend who loves stars and snacks.

Garden Shirt

Thrifted shirt with embroidered produce- blueberry, cucumber, radish, a garlic scape, pepper, and strawberry :-)

Crochet Bag

Quilted outer shell, bag zips open to hold crochet accessories for shorter day trips. Reinforced backing to hold tools in place, pin cushion, crocheted 'pin cushion' for thick needles. Little inner bag with a drawstring for loose smaller items like embroidery floss. I made this for a friend who is the best crocheter I know.

Egg-xtra Storage Climbing Bag

Quilted yellow and green pattern on the top/outside, and a subtle zipper leading to a fully finished interior with a space for various small climbing accessories and a silly pattern. This was one of the cleanest and most precise projects I have worked on!

Bamboo Scarf

This giant teddy bear's neck is probably 8X bigger than mine but it fits him alright too, and isn't he such a good model? A very simple double crochet pattern, but it took forever because of the rather thin bamboo thread used. It's very soft!

Cold Hand Hold Bag

This bag was made to be able to hold hands in the cold while staying warm :-)

There is a soft cotton liner and a layer of wool padding underneath the cute corduroy design.

Bicycle Bag

Quilted outer shell set with waterproofed coating. Zipper and roll closure on top for secure and easy access. Hooks in back to clip to bike rack, attached to an acrylic sheet with holes punched in it to reduce weight but maintain stability and bag structure. Inside has a scooby doo print lining, and I forgot to take a picture of it before giving it to a very special young man who just so happened to have built/ welded his own bike toghether from scratch!

8-Bit Pillow

A cross-stitch rendering of pixel art that a friend designed for a video game that may one day be released. Made my own fringe and a little star tassle for the pillow, (technically just a removable pillow cover (good for washing!) inside of which I put a pillow).

Beetle Bottle Bag

Another cross-stitch of some beetles.

They hold my water bottle in style!

Wandering Chalk Bag

I hand-embroidered this little imaginary map on some canvas, using coffee to stain the land masses. Then I turned it into.. a chalk bag!

Quilted Polymer Phases Banner

I work in a polymer materials research lab in a building with very repetitive corridors. Too easy to walk into the wrong lab! So I made banners to go near the entrances of our rooms, thematically related to some of the research that goes on inside. The picture on the bottom left is a WIP. the banner on the right image, left side shows bottlebrush polymers undergoing phase separation as a product of their side chains, while the banner on the right represents a hydrogel network with various modes of self interaction. Granny Square Sweater

My first crochet project- had to redo a few parts a few times and it took embarrassingly long, despite the technically extremely simple granny square design with single/double crochets.

Spring Garland

Hollowed, hand died eggs and felt figurines of flowers and strawberries to hang near the entrance of my home.

FSAE Garland

Participated in the holiday exchange with the Brown Formula Student Racing team for which I made this garland with some racing paraphernalia, including tires, a suited up driver, the front half of a chassis, welding Bruno, Yerba Mate (a sponsor!) suspension coils, and some drill bit things.
